We went to a friend's house for dinner tonight and let the kids wear each other out (and wow - the destruction of kids aged 3.5, 2, 1.5, 10mo, and 8mo is astounding). We left after planning a morning at the Starbucks/splashpad. When we were driving home, this was our convo:
Bubba: Going to school?
Me: No, going home to go to bed. We'll play at the water playground tomorrow.
Bubba: Daddy at home?
Me: No, Daddy is helping people far away.
Bubba: Mama, Daddy sad.
Me: Why is Daddy sad, Bubba?
Bubba: He wants to go to the park.
He's just so in tune to what's going on and I'm so THANKFUL that he knows his daddy wants to be at the park with him and not far away. Bubba can really push my buttons some days, but then he says something like this and it reminds me that I'm not a terrible, lazy, selfish mommy and that we are going to make it through this deployment - and be a stronger, closer family than we were before.
